Fashion and Technology

Fashion & Technology est la nouvelle exposition présentée au Fashion Institute of Technology de New York qui explore la relation entre le textile, les vêtements et les machines utilisées pour les créer. Organisée par Ariele Elia et Emma McClendon, l’exposition est une enquête approfondie sur la façon dont les progrès technologiques ont contribué à façonner la mode moderne en collaboration avec les innovations clés des deux derniers siècles: la machine à filer, le Jacquard, la machine à coudre, l’intégration de matériaux comme le caoutchouc et le plastique, etc. L’exposition explorera également le développement d’imprimé, de robes et de tissus par rapport à la technologie contemporaine, avec des pièces de Pierre Cardin, Elsa Schiaparelli, Thierry Mugler, Jean-Paul Gaultier et Issey Miyake.

L’exposition est prévue jusqu’au mois de Mai 2013, en parallèle à l’exposition Ivy Style qui porte un regard sur le style classique qui s’est développé sur les campus des collèges prestigieux d’Ivy League (jusqu’en fin Janvier 2013).

Fashion & Technology is presented by New York City’s Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, a new exhibition that explores the relationship between textiles, clothing and the machines used to create them. Curated by Ariele Elia and Emma McClendon, the exhibition is an in-depth investigation into how technological advancements have helped shape modern fashion, featuring key innovations over the past two centuries; the Spinning Jenny, the Jacquard loom, the sewing machine, the integration of materials like rubber and plastic, the “Space Race,” and today’s computer-aided designs are all examined in relation to garment production and fashion trends. The exhibition will also explore the development of prints, silhouettes and fabrics in relation to the forward-motion of contemporary technology, featuring looks from the likes of Pierre Cardin, Elsa Schiaparelli, Thierry Mugler, Jean Paul Gaultier and Issey Miyake.Fashion & Technology is scheduled to run until May of next year, alongside the Museum’s current Ivy Style exhibition, a look at the classic styling that developed on the campuses of prestigious Ivy League colleges, which will culminate in January 2013.
