Looking for a way to beat the winter blues? Let’s admit it, January is a tough month but travel is one of the best medicine. It is scientifically proven that planning a trip causes a significant increase in overall happiness. In addition, a sunny destination will also address your vitamin D deficiency.
Based on our previous travels, we have consolidated this brief recap of 5 destinations where to travel this winter. Read on to find out our tips to make the most of your visit to those countries.
Aruba
Located in the southern Caribbean, Aruba offers miles of stunning white sand beaches, a pretty colorful capital, and unique landscapes. Aruba is not a popular destination in the Caribbean so you would expect to have a quiet time there.
The European influence is reflected in the architecture with its gable facades in pastel colors, as in the Netherlands. This influence is also found in the language, because locals speak English, Dutch and Spanish, in addition to the Papiamento which is the predominant language used on Aruba. It is a creole language that incorporates words from Portuguese, various West African languages, Dutch, and Spanish. Find out more about our experience on the One Happy Island here.
The Bahamas
There are a ton of reasons to explore The Bahamas islands. Nassau, the capital of The Bahamas, is a hub full of culture, activities, and modern amenities to delight visitors. Beyond the action, you will find an incredible nature at its purest with miles of pristine beaches.
Without a doubt, you will spend a memorable time on this blissful island. Find out more about our experience in Nassau here.
Colombia
Colombia was our first destination in 2019 and I am so glad that my sister suggested this country. After a very short time in Bogota, we landed in Cartagena. The city of Cartagena, also known as Cartagena de Indias, is located on the northern coast of Colombia in the Caribbean region. Selected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, Cartagena was founded more than 400 years ago and enchants visitors with its colonial architecture protected by a set of fortifications.
Cartagena is also appreciated for its modern architecture that reflects its economic development, its vibrant nightlife and cultural festivals, and magnificent beaches. Find out more about our experience in Cartagena here.
Costa Rica
Have you ever heard about the expression Pura Vida? It means simple life but it is more a way of life in Costa Rica. Costa Ricans use this term to say hello, goodbye, and cool things.
Any time of the year could be a good time to visit Costa Rica whatever you are seeking to do during your stay. We chose the dry season, which runs from November through April as the humidity during the rainy season is much more pronounced there. Our focus was on relaxation, nature, and gastronomy. We organized our itinerary to be able to visit San Jose, La Fortuna, Monteverde, Santa Elena, and Quepos within a week. Find out more about our experience in Costa Rica here.
Mexico
There are so many cities to visit in Mexico. Among the top 10, we recommend visiting Puerto Vallarta. Winter is the perfect time to visit Puerto Vallarta located on the Pacific Ocean’s Bahia de Banderas of Mexico. From December through March, you could enjoy pleasant weather, which is ideal to explore the city and its surroundings.
When you arrive in Puerto Vallarta, time vanishes because you feel at your ease. There are plenty of things to experience whether you are traveling with family, as a couple or solo. At the airport, you will be solicited by tour operator agencies for excursions. Our advice is to plan your trip in advance and take the time to read customer reviews online before booking for an activity. Find out more about our experience in Puerto Vallarta here.
